The iPhone fully and natively supports VPN for wireless access.
It supports via Cisco IPSec for example. In the iPhone configuration screen you actually get a Cisco logo.
However, depending on the methodology used by the company you work for, you may or may not be able to hook it up cleanly.
IPSec for example where I work (S1) requires a certificate. I'm currently exploring the possibilities there but it looks grim since S1 doesn't support it. All the other data points required are available to S1 employees. Only the cert is missing.
